President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association Fazlul Hoque urged exporters to be more careful regarding documentation of export consignments destined for European Union under generalised system of preferences. ‘Any flaw in GSP documents may make EU customs authorities suspicious about the export consignments and put you in troubles,’ he told a seminar in Narayanganj on Wednesday. The Export Promotion Bureau and the BKMEA jointly organised the seminar on ‘Bangladesh’s export and GSP schemes.’ EPB director general Faridul Hasan spoke at the seminar, presided over by assistant director of EPB Narayanganj office, Rahmatullah. The seminar was addressed, among others, by Rakibur Rahman, director (textile) of the EPB and Ruman Reza, president of Narayanganj Press Club. The EPB DG said better utilisation of GSP would help Bangladesh increase its market share further in the EU. He said providing duty and quota free market access, the GSP facility has been greatly contributing to the growth of Bangladesh’s apparel exports to Europe. Knitwear exporters, local executives of banks and apparel industry leaders attended the seminar.
